These vineyards are historic. Wine has been cultivated here for more than 850 years. Above the Elbe River, with views of the porcelain town of Meissen, the Albrechtsburg Castle, and the Meissen Cathedral, wines are aged that enjoyed international renown even long before World War II and were even served at the World's Fair in Paris. This heritage almost faded into obscurity over the decades and the division of Germany after 1945.
Since 1990, following the re-establishment of our family winery Schloss Proschwitz, we have been working intensively to produce regionally, nationally, and internationally recognized wines of the highest quality in both vineyard and cellar. We want to delight wine lovers worldwide with the fruity, elegant, complex, and mineral-rich wines from our special Proschwitz terroir.
Our wines find optimal conditions here on our terroir, which features a loess layer up to six meters thick with syenite weathering on the red granite rock typical of our Meissen region.
