The Beginning
Martin, 17 years old. Supposed to be in Latin class. Instead, on a park bench in Kassel with a 1975 Chateau Margaux. A revelation! First, he pursued electrical engineering studies in Kassel but dropped out just before graduating—it wasn’t the right fit. A change of direction: Viticulture School in Geisenheim? Sounded intriguing. Preparatory internship at the Dr. Heger Winery in Baden, Kaiserstuhl. Intense and full of life lessons. In 1996, he graduated from Geisenheim with a degree in Viticulture and Enology, earning the title of Viticultural Engineer.
On the Wine Path
A winery in Saxony was looking for a viticultural engineer? It sounded like a challenge! Sixteen years at Schloss Proschwitz Prinz zur Lippe Winery, where he managed cellar operations. Many opportunities to experiment: the first Saxon wine aged in wood, the first port wine, ice wine… 2002. His first own vineyard plots in Radebeul and Meissen. Martin Schwarz Wines was born with its own collection, initially as a side business.
Today
Now, an independent winery! Since 2013, the wines have been produced in his own winery, the Wine Manufactory in Meissen. Gentle aging in new and used oak barrels, aiming to create distinctive wines characterized by complexity and finesse. Wines that can mature and evolve over time.
